Chair One is a pared back solid wood chair with an extreme visual levity. “We started from a stress diagram, a little like Jean Prouvé and the design of his furniture. An idea of designing at the limit where comfort appears as a surprise,” explains Manuel. The chair reflects Manuel's approach to architecture: honest materiality, bold yet timeless, innovative yet connected to the past, and an interplay of volume and void.

With an emphasis on function and the sensory response, his collection for De La Espada reflects a universal heritage that is fixed without time or place. Utilising astonishingly proportioned planks of Douglas Fir timber, the furniture is designed to be passed from generation to generation, earning the value of time and marks of memories past.
