Soul 4 is part of the Soul collection by French-Lebanese designer Charles Kalpakian for DCW éditions. Drawn from his memories of a childhood in Lebanon, the series of plaster wall lights is meant to be seen as you would a dark alley at dusk, suddenly lit by a shaft of light.

Each piece recalls an Etruscan mask and includes a small metal figure, seated or standing, an abstract self-portrait of the designer. Cast in white plaster, with or without gold leaf, and fitted with a dimmable 2700K LED.

DCW éditions is a french company, founded in 2008 by Philippe Cazer and Frédéric Winkler. They first produced the Lampe Gras, created in 1921 by the inventor Bernard-Albon Gras, first articulated lamp of the history, much lauded at the time by Le Corbusier.

2013 saw them bring out the Mantis lamps of British designer Bernard Schottlander. The Mantis were created in 1951 as an homage to Alexander Calder. DCW Éditions then released the singular Here Comes the Sun, designed by Bertrand Balas in 1970.

As the past is nothing without the future, DCW innovated by editing for instance In the Tube, specially designed by world renowned architect Dominique Perrault and his partner Gaëlle Lauriot-Prévost.

Charles Kalpakian was born in Beirut, Lebanon, in 1982. After collaborating with prestigious design agencies, he established his own design studio, where he has since been developing his own projects.
Drawing inspiration from his French and Lebanese heritage, as well as from street art culture, his work reinterprets decorative motifs rooted in Lebanon's history and geography. Charles's design language is defined by clean yet fluid lines, reminiscent of the strokes of a calligraphy brush. His projects consistently highlight the richness of his cultural background while seamlessly integrating elements of contemporary Western design.
