Reintroduced by GUBI after more than 50 years out of production, Carlo Nason’s iconic Lotus Table Lamp fuses the peak of Murano glass-making with a timeless artistic vision. Designed in 1969, it captures Nason’s fascination with form, light, and experimentation, as well as his desire to push the limits of both convention and material possibility. Crafted from four nested layers of mouth-blown glass, the lamp takes its name from its layered flower-like form, which evokes the poetic beauty of the lotus flower. The shade’s individual elements are made using mouth-blown ‘pulegoso’ glass technique, giving the lamp a varied, semi-opaque texture that enhances depth and light diffusion, ensuring each piece is unique. The multiple layers of glass conceal the bulb from view, creating a soft, ambient glow that brings a sense of calm and depth to a space.

About the Designer: Carlo Nason

Carlo Nason, born in 1935, is one of Italy’s most prolific and revered lighting designers, born to a rich lineage of Murano glass factory owners, he was actively involved in the process of glass blowing from a very young age. Nason’s auspicious upbringing made him a prominent figure in the golden age of Italian design. His collections encompass lamps, vases, and sculptures, mouth blown in Murano, where he continues to live in retirement. His works are in the collections of the internationally renowned Corning Museum of Glass, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York
