Derek Swalwell

In 2018, Melbourne based photographer Derek Swalwell, travelled to Plano, Illinois, and Colombus, Indiana to document two of the worlds most iconic mid-century houses, Farnsworth House by Mies van der Rohe and Miller House by Eero Saarinen. His resulting photographic works, realised in brilliant large format that truly depicts the houses’ under the unique conditions that Swalwell experienced, are soon to be unveiled to the public in an exhibition that will present the architectural mastery of the buildings, alongside the poignant narrative and sense of history as portrayed by Swalwell’s work.

As a whole, Swalwell’s FARNSWORTH + MILLER collection is a stand alone representation of two houses that define the mid-century modern aesthetic. The photographs singularly project them into a space that portrays the unrivalled charm and rich history that is provoked in both homes when documented in Swalwell’s honest and transformative fashion.
